A Time for Reflection

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Even if you can’t be with your own family you find that friends (or even strangers) become your family. Sharing thankfulness with others is a uniquely satisfying experience.

After spending the day in the traditional fashion I decided that a warm bath and a moment of reflection was in order. Of course this ritual demands the luxury of aromatherapy provided by a Vanilla Hazelnut soy candle, one of my personal favorites.

And so, at the end of a perfect day, my eyes wandered to the nearby mirror where the gentle light from my candle revealed a reflection… the face of a very contented, very thankful person.

May you all be so blessed!

Trimming Your Scented Candles

bluebox.pngSince people first ignited a piece of straw in a bowl of oil it has been necessary to occasionally adjust the length of the wick to maintain the most desirable burning characteristics. This is still the case today and also applies to the modern natural oil scented candles.

We have found that soy candles, and in particular, candles in a container that does not have a uniform diameter from top to bottom will benefit from an occasional trimming.

Many sources have recommended trimming the wick to a length of 1/4 in. but we have observed better results by trimming to a shorter (down to 1/8 in.) length. You will soon discover the optimum length to provide a good light without leaving a wick that is too long to burn cleanly.

Tea light candle

There are different kinds of candles from hurricane candles to votive candles. One of the more popular and versatile types is the tea light candle. This candle may be the smallest and perhaps least elaborate, but it can function well.

It can be used to decorate any table setting or garden setup. Tea light candles can be placed inside luminaries or colorful glasses to set the ambience of a place. This candle is also used in ceramic aromatherapy oil burners.

Soy jar candles

Candles, although attractive as home decorations, may be toxic, especially when the fumes are inhaled. Most candles are made of synthetic material such as paraffin wax. These candles leave a burning smell behind, which can be harmful to the environment.

An alternative is using soy jar candles. These candles make use of soy wax, which comes from hydrogenated soybean oil. It is a healthier alternative because it produces less soot and elicits a cleaner fragrance into the air. Because it does not contain petroleum, it is an eco-friendly alternative.
